WOMEN, POLITICS, AND DEMOCRACY IN LATIN AMERICA
This book discusses the current tendencies in women’s representation and their role in politics in Latin American countries from three different perspectives. Firstly, the authors examine cultural, political-partisan and organizational obstacles that women face in and outside institutions. Secondly, the book explores barriers in political reality, such as gender legislation implementation, public administration and international cooperation, and proposes solutions, supported by successful experiences, emphasising the nonlinearity of the implementation process. Thirdly, the authors highlight the role of women in politics at the subnational level. The book combines academic expertise in various disciplines with contributions from practitioners within national and international institutions to broaden the reader’s understanding of women in Latin American politics.
EQUIDAD E INCLUSION SOCIAL: SUPERANDO DESIGUALDADES HACIA SOCIEDADES MAS INCLUSIVAS
The book documents the challenges linked to the inclusion of vulnerable groups, and the full exercise of people's economic and social rights. The volume covers the concepts of inequality and social inclusion proposing that they should not only be measured in terms of income but relative to other factors such as gender, age, orientation or sexual identity, etc. Regarding social inclusion, the book defines it as the process by which equality is achieved, and by which gaps in productivity, skills, education, employment, labor segmentation, and informality are closed. The volume makes the case for a rights-based approach in the design and implementation of public policies in the region.
ELECTORAL RULES AND THE TRANSFORMATION OF BOLIVIAN POLITICS: THE RISE OF EVO MORALES
Electoral rules and the transformation of Bolivian politics: the rise of Evo Morales is the first book-length analysis of the rise in power of the [Bolivian] party Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) and its leader, President Evo Morales, in Bolivia. It examines the variations on electoral arrangements across time in this country, highlighting the most recent electoral reforms, and contends that the political outcomes of recent times in Bolivia are a byproduct of the electoral system. In doing this, the book offers an interesting contribution to the study of the Bolivian electoral system and recent political events in the country, in particular, and Latin American politics, in general.
